Play room and outside area
My Yorkshires have a toddlers day bed for their comfort. They love having a bed off the floor for not only napping and to playing with each other but they can have a good game of hide n seek as well.
Dogs are pack animals and enjoy the comfort of each other. They build strong relationships with each other the same as with the family. They love to snuggle next to a warm body. A pack forms the order of each dog and as a pack they are very interactive and with no doubt they full understand the language of each one in the pack. The first step in working and training your dogs is to be the pack leader. You need to know the needs of your dogs and understand their thoughts.
I take great care in the living cognitions, health and welfare of my dogs. Their day room is kept very clean and disinfected all day long. They have large comforters and baby blankets of all sorts and a collections of soft toys. The blankets and toys are washed daily. They have fresh water and food daily. I make the healthy doggy biscuits homemade each two weeks. My dogs are groomed once a week, ears cleaned, teeth cleaning & nails trimmed. You have to brush the coat every day and redo the top knot.
After they are groomed everyone has to smell what perfume the other has on...smile.. Then they are wore out and ready to take a nap..
Yes they are wearing clothes. Yorkshires do not have a undercoat so they like having a shirt or coat on to cut the wind off of them. A t-shirt lets them play outside on cooler days while holding in body warmth. Pajamas helps them hold in body warmth while they sleep in winter months.
My mothers and pups have play cribs so they have the comfort of a den area. Mothers are very protective of their litters and my females know that this is a safe area for their babies. I keep my litters away from the other dogs. This way I know the mother isn't stressed over them while she isn't in the crib with them. They are easily cleaned and disinfected, mess sides allows for great ventilation. I have one in the main part of the house and one right beside my bed.
I have separate soft toys for my puppies. I am always on the hunt for safe tiny toys. I use a mobile in the cribs and playpens. Mobiles are great ways of encouraging your pups to raise up and start moving about.
There is a water proof pad under the bedding which all is changed out four or five times a day. It is very important to keep their beds clean and warm.
As they grow and need more space they move into the playpen for the day. At night they sleep in the crib right beside my bed. Puppies need lots of space to play and a nice bed to snuggle down in. Toys give them things to interact with and helps them gain better mobility.
Yorkshires love their outside time. Either being in the yard running around or taking a walk about town. It is best to use a body harness then a collar. A collar is very hard on small breed dogs and can do damage to them. A well fit harness will you better control while training them on lead and them more comfort. I suggest you always microchip your dogs, as well as keeping a tag on them that has your information on it. |
My dogs have a well protected and safe yard to play in. It is a must to ensure that their yard is kept clean to ensure their comfort as well as their health. I never allow other dogs into the my dogs space. I never leave my dogs outside without me being with them.
I have jumps and tunnels for them to train and work out on. Yorkshires are full of energy and they love to run. They like to play chase, fetch a ball, roll about the grass, play follow the leader....It is in the Terriers nature to hunt about the ground and see what they can find, so take great care in knowing what is in or growing in your yard. I take four to six dogs at a time on lead for a walk. They need activities that will help burn off energy, let them experience the world around them. Walks are a great learning tool for the dogs as well building a strong pack. In training your dogs that you have to take one on one time with each dog. His full attention needs to be on you and not what is going on around him. Other training tools will used while they are a pack. Yorkshires are very smart, be patient and consistent, you'll see progress.
I have a large security fence within my backyard that surrounds the patio. This allows my dogs to use their doggy door at night but only have access to the patio area unless I am with them in the yard. Any dog can dig under a fence in no time without you even knowing it. I try to stay one step ahead of them. Here we have to deal with milder weather and are still adgusting to that.
I keep a canopy over the area where the doggy door is, as well as they have their own gazebo. This gives them plenty of shade from the sun and protection from the rain and snow when they go outside.
