Just one pair of my foundation dogs. This is the history in which I have found researching the pedigrees for two of my foundation dogs.
Midnight and Little Bit
For any one who has researched the pedigree and history of their Yorkshire Terrier, you know what a job this is. It takes a great deal of time, money and effort. The endless hours and countless books that consume your every moment. So many days spent in front of a computer until you can stand to sit any longer. A ton of research material, that in the end only leads to more research material. And some where in the middle you learn the journey has just begun... The strong of any bloodline are the Yorkshires that come before it. I know that only a good bloodline that has held the test of time will be a sound one. I take great care in looking at the champions of a bloodline. The breeders and their strains. I know from what has come before my Yorkies what can come again. So to make a good strain I have to start with two good bloodlines. I owe so much to the breeders that came before me. To the ladies and gentleman who walked this graceful angelic dog out to be shown. For the greatest moments in their life, when I am sure they said to themselves, no one knows just how much I put into to this. Yes, we do know and are forever grateful. We give you honor for all your work and praise for all your success. To learn from those that came before you is always the best way to start. History is funny. Some times you want to repeat it, and some times you don't. If you don't know the history of the little guy, you don't know what you are repeating. To tell you the truth most people get to a point in all this work and give up or stop when they hit what they think is a dead in. They know their dog came from England so they make the leap and credit one person for the creation of the breed. When in fact it was more than one person and more than one strain. The same breeder created not every strain. And not every line made it. Those who keep on working and following their line see the true history of their dog. Being that there were more than one strain this was a good time of diversity in the Yorkshire Terriers history. Those who had a good eye and sense for what traits they wanted, kept the best genes and built on them. Those who were not as lucky were not able to produce the quality and traits needed so they ended their lines. This was not all done in one breeding. This took many breedings to retain the needed genes and decades to refine. This took great skills and an art of breeding from people who put their heart and soul into this breed. This skill still continues today My Yorkshires have a long list of Champions to their pedigrees. To date are over 365 Champions have been added. Some of the names are repeated. As with most great Champions you will see their names more than once in a pedigree. They have the traits, standard and genes you want repeated in your strain. There is always work being done on our pedigrees and information added. In a large part the dogs in this pedigree are some of the best Champions in the history of the Yorkshire Terrier. Yorkshire Terrier strains born and to some of the best breeders in the world. My male carries the line that follow as Ozmilion, Blairsville, Beechrise, Pagnell, Burgwallis, Johnstouburn, Invincia, Eastwood, Foster and about eight of the earliest breeders who held the DNA and genetic blueprints for this elegant and beautiful dog. The genes in this line still run true. I am very proud to be able to look back in time and place one of my pups next to a photo of her ancestor and see almost a photo copy. This bloodline has always had beauty and grace. From the very first dogs of Mrs. Foster the genes for the coat, size and small features was set. The great breeders that followed her only enhanced, improved and built on the very genes that has made this a strong line. To date I have five bloodlines. I know the great value of tracing your bloodline. Researching the dogs will help you gain a better understanding of what your breeding and what you want to breed out. Breeders are not Gods and should not play one. We deal with nature and some things are out of your control. Learning the most you can will help guide you in your work. These two bloodlines take me into Canada, Germany, Ireland, Holland, England, Hungary and Scotland. To research every Yorkie is a monumental task, but I can not tell you anything more rewarding. I have extended pedigrees for both my adults, a mountain of research, books that are wrote about my bloodlines, photo's going back before 1869, and even the earliest drawings of dogs in our pedigrees. Ch Albert (3587) born in 1869. He was top winner from 1863 - 1865. His mother was Rose. Old Sandy (3652) and her father was Old Crab. Rose and Old Crab mark 30 generations back into history. Each new thing that is learned is added to our pedigree and history with great pride. There are Champions of the past that I am aiming my goals for. To take one moment in time and repeat it...to pick just the right genes and maybe even make it better.. So why do I tell you how important this is? This may be the biggest step in you and your pup's life. The first thing you should do before getting a Yorkshire Terrier is to research the bloodline. There are some excellent bloodlines out there, you just have to look for them. Don't let the want of a Yorkie outweigh logic. You get what you settle for. No matter what the reason is that you want a purebred, the wealth of the bloodlines that made that pup should always be of the very best. I tell you this because many hearts get hurt over poorly bred dogs. Like I said, some things you don't want to repeat. Also because I don't want someone to damage something I have worked so hard for. By opening my door to some people as a breeder I also have a responsibility to make sure my bloodline stays in tack. My website is in no way an attempt to teach breeding, that is a skill and art you won't learn in any website or even from a book. It takes years of learning, research and doing, plus like I said an eye that has to be developed. A good breeder will tell you there is always new things to learn and tons of books left to read. To a good breeder a pedigree is never complete until it has every name in its place. My job is to help educate you on both of my bloodlines. To give you all the information and details I have so that you know just what you are getting. Like I said no matter what your reason for your purebred is, the quality and bloodlines should still be the best. Any pet can have a health problem or illness at some time in his life. The same as us. By doing all you can from the start you will ensure that your Yorkshire is from good sound stock and avoid the unnecessary health issues that poorly bred bloodlines have. Also those who breed their dogs with no care or concern for their health and well being. There is still allot to learn about genetics and the role they play. The effects and causes. I as a breeder must know what the history and pedigree of my bloodlines are. This is what you need to see when you go look for a bloodline. If a breeder does not know the history, how do you know what you are getting? I have extended pedigrees on all of my dogs. I keep them on a pedigree software as well as paper pedigree's for back up.
